Regarding the saga of our refrigerator woes: well, we now have not ONE, but TWO refrigerators. Without going into a long, drawn out story, suffice it to say that the day AFTER we bought the new 'fridge, the repairman called Bob and told him that the part had come in and he'd be out that day to fix the old one. Bob thought it best to have it fixed and put in the garage, not only to keep extra drinks and beer, but also as a 'back up'. Me... I'd have told the repairman what he could do with the part since he NEVER bothered to return any of Bob's calls prior to us going to buy the new refrigerator.

In other news.... I had a potential cell phone stalker!!!!!!!!!! Last Tuesday at around 11 p.m., my cell phone rang -- something that just does NOT happen at that time of night, since most everyone who knows me, knows I'm in bed at the time during the week. Anyway, I didn't make it to the phone in time to answer, but when I looked at the number, it was local (336 area code) but I didn't recognize it, so I shrugged it off. Well, around 1 a.m., it rang again -- same number but this time I made it to the phone in time to pick up and say 'Hello', figuring the person would ask for whoever they wanted and I'd tell them they had the wrong number. Imagine my surprise (can you say 'shock'?!?) when there was no one there but I knew someone was on the line. This sorta' freaked me out so I shut the phone off. The next day, after getting back from the grocery store, I turned it back on to find two text messages and VM (though no one was there). One of the text messages asked about chatting or emailing. At this point, I replied to the message and told the person that they had the wrong number. I also replied to the VM with the same message, mainly so I could get the person's name who was calling.

Again that night, around 11 p.m., the phone rang again with the same number. I immediately shut it off. The next morning, another text message (to which I responded telling the person I believed they had the wrong number and to stop calling) AND another VM with no message. I responded to that as well, telling the person that they had the wrong number and if they didn't stop calling I'd call the police and give them the person's name and telephone number.

Well, my phone rang twice at work that day, but I didn't answer, merely shut it off. Fortunately, I believe the person FINALLY got the message because since Thursday, no more calls! I have to say, though, that was really, really getting freaked out about this.

On the up side of life... the muse has been in overdrive lateley. If I'm not writing at least one haiku every other day or so, I'm writing two or sometimes three. Add to that, I've begun the next chapter of Eye of the Beholder as well as an all new ficcie -- Through His Eyes, for which blueutopiah and I have been bouncing ideas around and for which I promised her a 'teaser'. Anyway, teasers for both are below the cuts, if you want a 'peek'.

Hiei Jaganshi was not, at this moment, what one might call happy. In point of fact, not only was he not happy, Hiei was royally, and justifiably (at least in his mind), pissed off!
How dare their pompous ass of a producer arbitrarily decided what was best for his band!

A sudden mental picture of said producer flashed through Hiei’s mind. Yomi Gandara: tall, darkly handsome with long black hair and penetrating black eyes, and cynical to a fault. At one time, he had been the lead guitarist in the hugely popular band, Rose Whip, but that had been three years ago, before the accident that had taken the life of one of its members and left another without his sight. In the years since, Yomi had become a highly successful producer with Makai Productions, the record label that had recently signed the up and coming Dragon’s Flame…Hiei’s band.

And Dragon’s Flame was his! Okay, so technically, his and Yusuke’s. Hiei glanced over at the man he’d known since childhood. Yusuke Urameshi was stretched leisurely across on of the two overstuffed sofas that decorated the small lounge, his raven black head pillowed in the lap of the band’s bassist (and Yusuke’s lover), Koenma Daoh, his eyes closed. Long legs, encased in sinfully tight, low-slung black leather pants were crossed at the ankles; a shirt of emerald green silk opened over a tight, midriff baring tank top completed his ensemble. Long fingered hands were clasped across his chest, which rose and fell with each easy breath the man took. His dark hair, normally slicked back and gelled to within an inch of its life, was miraculously free of the sticky shit today. It spilled gracefully over his ears and around his heart shaped face, much like his lover’s own tousled brown hair.

Hiei shifted his gaze from his childhood friend to the man in whose lap Yusuke’s head rested. They were polar opposites: the cocky punk with the devil-may-care grin from the wrong side of the tracks, and the billionaire industrialist’s son, born with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth. Even in looks and temperament, they were different. Yusuke, exuding sensuality from every pore of his body – a walking/talking sex machine.

Koenma, on the other hand, was classically handsome with honeyed brown hair and hazel eyes, a patrician nose and generous mouth (that is, when you could see it, for the man had a fetish for lollipops and was very rarely seen without one stuck between his lips). He was taller than Yusuke, older than the other members of Dragon’s Flame by three years.

Chapter 4

“H..h..how dare I?” Hatanaka sputtered, managing to sound indignant even with the sword still pressed uncomfortably into his throat. The anger that now coursed through him at the audacity of this puny upstart now matched that of the being in whose grasp he was held. “How dare you!” He retorted. “You attack me and then have the temerity to address me in such a manner! Have you any idea just who I am?”

Icy blue eyes, filled with all the haughty arrogance their former nobility granted them, stared back at the cloaked and hooded figure standing over him.

“I care not in the least for who you are!” spat the figure. Though the face beneath the hood remained invisible, the voice that addressed Hatanaka carried within it the same arrogance as the former noble’s sapphire eyes. “You are nothing more than a common trespasser and thief,” it finished, the sword pressing even further into the soft flesh of his captive’s neck enough to draw blood.

“I am neither,” the noble fumed. Despite the blood he could feel trickling down his skin, Hatanaka held onto his rage, eyes and voice becoming icier as he glared at the hooded man. “This road is meant for public use; and that bush,” he flung an arm in the direction of the overgrowth from which he’d so recently taken the rose…..

“Wrong again, interloper!” The angry voice hissed, effectively silencing the nobleman before he could so much as finish his thought. “These lands are mine. Thus, whatever is contained on or within them also belongs to me.”

Here it is!

And if you'd like to play, comment and I'll pick three user pics and three interests for you to tell everyone and their brother (or sister) about.

These are my three, assigned by hcolleen:

Interests (technically really only two since writing fanfic and writing poetry could be considered the same thing, but I'm treating them as separate)

1. Anime -- I became a convert to the wonderful world of anime quite by accident and have NEVER regretted it. I happened to be watching CN late one Saturday night and an episode of Ruroini Kenshin came on. I was intrigued, so I watched... and the rest, as they say, is history.

The great thing about anime is that I have made some wonderful friends on-line, some of whom I will be meeting in 9 days!!!

2. Writing Fanfic -- I actually started writing fanfic back in 2001 (though I didn't know then that this is what it was called). I began by writing several poems and stories for the Horatio Hornblower fandom, even collaborating with two other fans on a 'pass the pen' story that one of them had started. Once I began to be serious about anime, I started writing in that fandom, and now concentrate solely in that arena (mostly Yu Yu Hakusho).

3. Writing Poetry -- I'd actually done this back in high school (don't we all?!?!) and even had a teacher send some of my work to several magazines for publication (though to my knowledge nothing ever came of it). And though I have written a chapbook manuscript of poetry in recent years (unpublished), my main focus lately seems to be in the realm of haiku (which I've discovered that I love to write).

Pics/Avatars

Those of you who know me, know that this beautiful boi is my favorite character from Yu Yu Hakusho -- Kurama. I like this picture, not only because of the way he's tossing his red mane, but also because he's dressed in a military style uniform.

Oftentimes, I will find a particular picture or someone (and you know who you are blueutopiah) will post a picture or a weblink to pictures that will inspire me to write. This is one of those pics. And though I'm sure it's not readable here, the haiku beneath the picture of 'white angel' Kurama and 'black angel' Hiei (the other character I write) is mine.

I call this one 'Kurapica in White Shirt'. Kurapica is a character in the anime HunterxHunter, which thanks to blueutopiah I have been fortunate enough to see. Kurapica, in many ways, reminds me of Kurama. But I suppose that's only natural, given that they are the creations of Yoshiro Togashi; though I'm not sure Togashi-san meant them to be so similar. I find Kurapica to be honorable and courageous yet at the same time, sad and somewhat a loner, which is how I find Kurama... and really, Hiei as well. I suppose I'm drawn to these type of characters which is why I particularly like these three.

And as you probably noticed, ALL three of these pics are of beautiful bois; and two of them are somewhat provocative! Yes, I have succumbed to the 'dark side'.... In Yaoi I lust!!!!

Yes -- I've decided that it's time this middle-aged lady played dress up once again, and so I'm going to be cosplaying Youko Kurama at Animazement this year. I've gone ahead and placed a bid on a wig on e-Bay to go with the costume I'll be ordering in the next couple of weeks. I couldn't find a 'silver' wig, but since the costume, including tail and ears, is white, I thought the wig I found would be okay.

Here's a pic. Let me know what you think.

I'm actually looking forward to dressing up, and my friend, Debbie, has already told me she wants to see pictures.

The keynot speaker was a professor at the University's Bryan Business School and not ONLY was he short and to the point, he was also humorous and his speech was NOT just the standard, 'I, me, my' (exulting himself and his credentials) but actually was geared toward the graduates and their futures, and was really very enjoyable.

Oh and I FINALLY managed to pull off a surprise gift for her. Usually, she's with me when I buy her gifts, or she tells me what she wants and where to get it. THIS time, however, I ordered her gift (the Verizon Cherry Chocolate phone) on-line, so she had no idea. And since I got the Cherry (red) one, which unbeknownst to me was the color she wanted, I totally ROCKED on this one!!

She wound up with 2 As and an A- with a GPA for the semester of 3.91 and an overall GPA of 3.46 for the her 4.5 years at UNC-G.

Too bad they won't round up the GPA to a flat 3.5... then she'd be graduating Cum Laude. She's only missing it by 4 one-hundredths of a point, but that's the way the school operates. Of course, it doesn't diminish my pride in her one iota!!

Busy Weekend!

Between the housework (gods... doesn't it EVER end), Christmas shopping and decorating, AND the beginning of my Christmas baking/etc., it was a very busy, but overall satisfying weekend!!

I finished Christmas shopping for the husband on Friday night. He'd asked for Season 3 of Wings (guess he can't get enough of it on Nick at Nite!), so I got it for him at Best Buy. Then I had the somewhat brilliant idea that, since he and his buddies play poker once a month and I'd already gotten him a folding poker tabletop for Father's Day, why not get him some 'official' poker chips. Wal-Mart had a really nice set of 200 chips with two decks of cards in a metal carrying case for $10, so I picked it up for him!

I also got several things for my Mom... the newest Andrew Greeley book as well as a collector's edition of the musical, South Pacific. I still need to get her a Christmas sweatshirt (it's kind of a tradition between us) and a Christmas ornament.

Robyn's finished, as is my future son-in-law... well, except for the stockings I'm going to fill for them. I asked Bob if he wanted a stocking but he said 'no'.

I also spent part of yesterday afternoon making what I call my 'crabby spiced' peanuts; which are nothing more than dry roasted nuts that have been toasted in canola oil and Old Bay seasoning. I'd bought four large jars of Planter's dry roasted nuts because the weight was a little over 2 lbs., and I figured that since that's 32 ozs. and there are 16 ozs. to a pound, I'd get four 1/2 lb. bags (1 cup) out of each jar -- and I needed to fill at least 16 bags for my co-workers (I like to give them all a little something each year). Well, talk about figuring WRONG!!! Yep, I had MORE than enough nuts for the 16 bags, plus two additional bags (one for a basket I'm doing for my boss and one for another basket I'm doing for Robyn's best friend and her hubby because they are like my children, too) AND two apothecary type jars that I was able to fill for Christopher's parents (dad and stepmom, and mom and stepdad) as well as having almost a FULL Planter's container left over!! Go figure! But I'd rather have TOO many than not enough!!

This weekend I'm planning my fudge and peanut brittle making as well as chocolate chip cookies and (for the first time) chocolate toffee-chip cookies. I figure for the chocolate toffee-chip cookies, I'll use the Nestle toll house recipe and just add some cocoa powder to the dry ingredients so that the dough is chocolate flavored and chocolate in color and then add the Heath toffe chips I bought to it.

And thus did my weekend pass! I did do a bit of writing last night and this morning on Eye of the Beholder as I promised myself I wouldn't write any more on What Price, Love?</> until I'd finished the chapter I've been working on of Eye.

    <lj:music>The Show Must Go On -- Queen</lj:music>

Because I love ya'll, a little teaser from the next chapter of What Price Love. The chapter seems to be writing itself... either that, or the muse is having a field day filling my head with bits and pieces of dialog and narrative. If I can make sense of it, I should have this chapter written and up by this weekend... or at least month-end.

“Hello, Hiei.”

At the sound of that voice, Hiei’s head snapped up and he straightened. The tiny hand clasped in his slipped from his grasp, all but forgotten now, as the world narrowed down to himself and the lovely red-headed figure standing before him. His sight and mind didn’t even register the Detective and the Fool standing behind Kurama. Hiei’s eyes were only for his fox.

Those eyes widened, their ruby depths filled with wonder as Hiei stared at the fox. How was it possible for someone already so beautiful to have grown even more so? Hiei didn’t know the answer to that question; only that it was true of the figure standing in front of him.

The lithe body still held the same graceful athleticism of a dancer, though it was thinner than Hiei remembered. The face, too, was thinner; it’s finely drawn planes making the features appear even more elfin-like. And Kurama’s eyes… to Hiei they seemed even more jewel-like than ever; far more brilliant than any emerald.

Hiei knew he was staring but found he cared not in the least. As always, the fox held him in thrall. The spell was only broken when he heard Ryuushin’s excited cry of “Papa!” as the young boy launched himself at his father.

With a tender smile, Kurama bent down to retrieve his son; lifting the boy into his arms and holding him close. Ryuushin returned his father’s hug, nuzzling against the warm neck before he pulled back and looked up at the fox, his smile wide.

“I found him, Papa,” he stated proudly, “even though he was twyin’ to hide… I found him!”

“As always, little one, your perceptions have served you well,” the kitsune replied. “However, you should not have gone into the woods alone; especially since you had no knowledge of what you might have found there.”

Though the words were gently spoken, Ryuushin hung his head. “I’m sowy, Papa.” The tiny voice was soft and filled with regret. He knew he’d upset his father. “I didn’t mean to make you wowry. I’ll wemember next time… I pwomise.”

Another soft smile lit Kurama’s face and the arms holding Ryuushin tightened gently around the boy. “It’s all right, my son,” the kitsune answered, “I know you will.”

So TOTALLY Pathetic, It's Laughable

This is a TRUE story!! It actually happened Friday afternoon at work. To understand it, I have to explain something to ya'll first.

I work for a forms printing company and for the past five years, have been on-site at the Sales Rep's (for whom I work)account (which is Lowes -- the Home Improvement warehouse people). Anyway, Lowes has contracted with another company (XPEDX) to be their distribution center for the forms, brochures, posters, etc. that we produce for them. XPEDX has a requirement that ALL cartons and inner packs of items they store and ship to Lowes stores MUST have a special yellow label on them which gives the item number; the description of the item, and how many 'ship units' are contained in the carton. This label is IN ADDITION to the standard white shipping label that we affix to each carton that (basically) gives the same information.

Part of my job as the on-site Customer Care Service Rep 2 (fancy title for DOES IT ALL AND LETS THE SALES REP COLLECT HIS COMMISSION) is to place release orders for items that XPEDX shipes to Lowes stores so that they can ship from our warehouses to XPEDX. On October 31st I did this (as I do practically every day). Well, on Friday, one of the FAR TOO many contacts I have at XPEDX emailed me to tell me that their Salt Lake City storage facility had received this release order and that, though they had ordered item #95814, the carton had a white label that said it was 95814 but the yellow label said it was 95804. After making a BIG fuss about how 'this was getting out of hand' (WTF!!! This was the FIRST I'd been notified of such); I responded and requested that the SLC warehouse open the carton and check to see what the actual item number on the forms contained therein was. I also told the contact that I would get in touch with my warehouse to have them check their remaining inventory (which I did).

Meanwhile, the contact emails me again, this time attaching a picture of the two carton labels and reiterating that this is a 'major' problem and that they received the wrong item (I had not, as yet, heard back from my warehouse). So I called the young lady at XPEDX and again requested that she have her warehouse look at the actual item number printed on the form itself. FINALLY, after having to halt her rant about the problem, she agreed. A half hour later she called me back to tell me that the warehouse had actually opened the carton, looked at the and indeed, printed on it was the form #95804. She also said they were taking a picture of that and would email it to me.

At that point, I called our plant that actually printed the item and alerted them that we had a problem -- because it was obvious they'd produced the WRONG DAMN ITEM!!! Once I received the picture to prove it, I forwarded that to them and told them that I needed to have the correct item printed ASAP because XPEDX was out of stock and in a backorder situation and since what remained in stock at our warehouse was the WRONG ITEM, I had NO stock I could send to get them out of the backorder situation. I also emailed my warehouse to have the freeze the stock remaining so it couldn't be shipped until the producing plant tells me when they will get the correct item produced.

What's laughably pathetic is that it took the CUSTOMER'S DISTRIBUTION ARM to discover that there was a problem! I mean, I fail to see how EITHER the shipping people at the plant could NOT have noticed that there were TWO different labels on the cartons with TWO DIFFERENT item numbers on them. I also fail to see why our warehouse DIDN'T NOTICE EITHER!!

So tomorrow, I have to follow-up with the producing plant to make sure they understand that this was their error and they need to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to get the correct item produced and shipped to our warehouse. I also have to get in touch with the warehouse to see if the can take the incorrect stock, re-label the white label with the correct item number and put that stock with the other forms that match it. I also have to enter a credit into the system because they customer informed me that, though they are keeping the incorrectly produced item and have changed their system so that in can be received, they want the original invoice sent on the order credited for the item they were supposed to receive and be re-billed for the item they did receive and elected to keep. Mind you, BOTH items cost the same and have only one digit that is incorrect -- '1' and '0' -- but they refuse to change the item number from 95814 to 95804 on the invoice!

Ah real life... isn't it wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last week I wrote that I was in LUST with Father Vaclav Havel from Trinity Blood, and it's true. I mean, what's NOT to lust.... he's dark haired and dark eyed with a voice that just oozes bedroom charm (and why not, since he's voiced by the one and only Chuck Huber).

Well, as if THAT wasn't enough to make a lady's hormones go wild, this past Saturday night I was watching the show and who should FINALLY make his appearance.... Father Hugue de Watteau... voiced by the incomparable (IMHO) John Burgmeier! And again, the character is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!!!! He has long blonde hair, and I regret to say, that I was drooling so much, I never noticed his eyes! So, not only do I lust after one priest... now I lust after TWO!!!

And what's really funny is that we have three fourths of the Reikai Tantei playing priests in this series. Hiei as Havel; Kurama as Hugue; and Kuwabara as the android priest known as 'Gunslinger' (and sexily voiced by Chris Sabat). Now, if 'Leon' or the 'Professor' had been voiced by Justin Cook, we'd have Yusuke as well... though Justin did voice one of the villians in an earlier episode and one can only hope that we'll be hearing from him again in future episodes!

Bet I got your attention with that line, ne?!?!

Anyway, now that I do, let me explain. I've been watching Trinity Blood on The Cartoon Network on Saturday nights and am TOTALLY in lust with one Father Vaclav Havel. Not only is the character's name the same as that of the first (and former) Czech Republic president (and I just happen to be 3/4's Czech), but he is voiced by none other than our beloved Hiei.... Chuck Huber.... just much softer than our Hiei's rasp. I like to think it's the way Hiei would speak (privately) to his fox as well as Yukina!! Of course, it also helps that said Father Havel is tall with long dark hair and just a hint of a goatee..... le sigh.... le pant.... <strike>le heaving breasts</strike>!!!

Oh, and before I forget, as promised, here's the next haiku... er... make that Yusukeku... for your viewing/reading pleasure!

What is a hero?
Nothing extraordinary
Just someone who cares

I think that's how Yusuke truly sees himself -- as nothing special but someone who cares not only about those he loves, but the world as a whole. The haiku is also how I view the many, many 'heroes' of 9/11 as well as ANYone who cares about the people of this world and does something about it.

... and get an idea for a story, haiku, or poem when I'm staring at a blank Word document?!?!?

It seems the only time I get these creative urges, I'm doing something else.... driving home from work; working; or doing housework. Anyway, I was cleaning my bathrooms this evening and I just had the urge to write this Hieiku. I'm calling it that because it just seemed like something our little fire demon might contemplate, so no haiku... just a Hieiku for ya'll!

Alone: five letters
And only two syllables
Yet infinite pain

Hmmmm, maybe I should try a Kuramaku next... or maybe even a Yusukeku... better still, a Kuwabaraku?!?! :):)

...you lucky wenches!!! :)

Seriously though, I did it!! This afternoon I posted to my role-playing group's site and let them know that, effective immediately, I thought it best if I leave the group. I did not blame anyone or allude to it being anyone else's fault because the honest truth is that the responsibility lies solely with me.

I have been unhappy with my character and my writing of that character for a long time now. I felt as if I was just 'going through the motions' and to me, that was a doing a disservice to the other members of the group.

I'm not sure if any of them will understand my reasons. I've received only one comment, and that was from the moderator of the group. She said that she understood but somehow, she turned it around to be a commentary on her and her life, but that's okay.... I'm happy.... I made my decision.... I executed it... and life goes on!
